About Me

My name is Ben Hooper, and I have a strong passion for creating mobile apps that make a positive impact on users’ lives. I’m hardworking, determined, and focused on delivering meaningful digital experiences, with users at the heart of everything I do.

I also have experience working with clients, which has helped me develop strong communication skills and a reliable, collaborative working style. This has given me the ability to take ideas from concept through to completion, while making sure the final product aligns with the client’s vision and goals. I take pride in being trusted with projects where quality and attention to detail matter, and I always aim to deliver products that clients are proud to release and confident sharing with the world.

My Achievements

My achievements reflect my growth through learning, practice, and real-world project experiences. I have built a strong foundation in mobile app development focused on user-centred design.

My time at University Centre of Somerset

I graduated from University Centre Somerset (UCS) with a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (2022–2025).

Throughout my degree, I developed a strong foundation in secure software development, cyber security, databases, human–computer interaction (HCI), cloud computing, networking and programming.

During my second year, I began developing the Bridgwater Carnival app as part of a university project. The app was created to help people attending the carnival find important locations, follow the route and access useful event information. I continued building and improving the app throughout my studies, adding new features, improving accessibility and refining the user experience.

The Bridgwater Carnival app then became my final year project and dissertation. It was recognised as one of the best final year projects, with only one other student receiving this award.

Working on this app, along with other software development assignments throughout my degree, made me realise how much I enjoy creating digital experiences and sparked my passion for building websites and mobile apps.

Junior Website Developer

After graduating, I began my first role as a Junior Developer at a digital agency, where I developed and maintained websites for a range of clients across the UK.

In this role, I worked with Tailwind CSS, HTML, PHP, JavaScript and WordPress to build websites that were modern, accessible and easy for clients to update themselves. I helped create and maintain a variety of websites, ensuring content could be added and managed efficiently.

Alongside the development work, I regularly worked directly with clients, discussing their requirements, making requested changes and helping turn their ideas into finished websites. This gave me valuable experience in client communication and taught me how to balance technical development with client needs.

I worked closely within a small team of developers and designers, collaborating to deliver high-quality websites and provide the best possible experience for clients. Working in this environment taught me the importance of communication, teamwork and attention to detail.

This role helped me grow significantly as a developer and strengthened both my technical and professional skills. In particular, I developed my abilities in front-end development, WordPress, Tailwind CSS, PHP, task management, client work and software testing.

How I Work

Join me as I explore building modern mobile apps, focusing on simple, accessible, user-friendly experiences that feel seamless and intuitive.

01

Discover Your Needs

Meet clients, ask questions, and research users to understand what problem the mobile app should solve and what features are truly needed.

02

Define Features & Scope

List key app functions, prioritise essentials, and avoid unnecessary features to keep the app focused, efficient, and easy to build.

03

Estimate Pricing

Calculate cost based on app complexity, features, design time, and maintenance, ensuring fair pricing for both small and large projects. All apps will have a 50% deposit.

04

Design User Interface

Create wireframes and prototypes to plan simple, intuitive navigation and ensure the app is easy and enjoyable to use.

05

Develop the App

Build the mobile app using suitable tools and frameworks, focusing on clean code, performance, and reliability across devices.

06

Test & Deliver

Test for bugs and usability issues, fix problems, then deploy the app and provide updates or support if needed.

07

Maintenance & Support

Ongoing updates, bug fixes, and improvements are provided to keep your app secure and running smoothly.
