During my second year at university, I had the privilege of working on the development of the Bridgwater Carnival App as part of a small team of students. Following a successful launch in the first year, I continued the project independently in my final year, improving and updating the existing app while also creating a second version for my dissertation. This work contributed to achieving one of the highest final grades in the university. The carnival app is designed to support both first-time visitors and returning attendees in getting the most out of the famous carnival experience. It acts as a clear, interactive guide to the event, helping users understand what the carnival is about, access key information, and navigate the full procession route on the day. The app features an intuitive, easy-to-use map that highlights the carnival route along with key locations such as viewing areas, parking zones, and rest points. It also allows users to follow the procession in real time, helping to reduce confusion and make navigation around the event straightforward and stress-free. In addition to navigation, the app provides essential event information, including timings, live updates, and background details about the carnival’s history and traditions. It also includes useful sections such as travel guidance, photo galleries, and important announcements to enhance the overall visitor experience. Overall, the app serves as a digital companion for the carnival, improving accessibility, supporting navigation, and ensuring visitors can enjoy the event safely, confidently, and with ease. The project is now being continued by students at the University Centre Somerset (UCS), where I am overseeing development and providing guidance to ensure the app remains up to date and fully prepared for future carnival events.
